Johnston Street - Collingwood
A mixed-use project located in a forgotten area, described in the planning field as a traffic sewer. Our challenged design scheme placed a garden behind a glass façade on street level. Pedestrians appear to be surprised by this, often pausing to view.
The lobby through to the townhouses and apartments is open to the sky, becoming partially wet when it rains, sunny during the day, and a cool, relaxing place on a hot summer’s day. The homes are all wide and fully glazed to their north facing living areas. The townhouses have multiple terrace and deck areas over two levels, leading off the living areas via large timber doors. A strong, but restrained external architectural language, balanced by a soft and expressive internal design experience. Private, open and fun.
